Its name derives from the Greek goddess, Iris, who carried messages from Olympus to earth along a rainbow. Iris flowers have about 200 species and is native of North temperate regions of the world. The Iris flower is of special interest as an example of the relation between flowering plants and pollinating insects. The shape of the flower is a perfect shape like a landing pad for flying insect to gather nectar. Iris flowers have been a symbol of royalty and express courage and admiration.
